Abstract

Long-term contraceptive methods (LCMs) are an effective option for spacing or terminating pregnancies, but their use is often hampered by low knowledge and uncertainty in decision-making. This study aims to describe comprehensive midwifery care through education and assistance in selecting LCMs for Mrs. R G3P2A0 from the third trimester to the postpartum period at the Suwarti Somad Independent Midwife Practice (PMB), Bengkulu City. The descriptive case study was conducted from May 21–July 3, 2024, with data collection through interviews, observations, physical examinations, documentation studies, and literature studies; counseling interventions using booklets and Family Planning Decision-Making Tools (ABPK). A 24-year-old client, G3P2A0, expressed her desire to use contraception after giving birth and had a history of previous contraceptive use (condoms and 3-month injections). After receiving education and assistance, the client better understood the LCM option and confidently chose an IUD with a plan to use it after 40 days of the postpartum period. Continuous education and support from pregnancy to postpartum helps clients understand the options for IUDs and strengthens their decision to choose an IUD according to their needs.
